Outside of the park:
Outside the park, allow 50-80 minutes to drive to the valley floor. Google Maps gives accurate driving times, but allow 10-15 minutes to pass through the park gates where there is a permit check. ($20 permit per car valid for 7 days/multiple entries/all vehicle occupants).
There are a few privately owned "resort" motels that are closer in along the 120, 140 and 41 Highways. Along the 140 relatively close is the village of El Portal, which has at least one of these resorts, the Yosemite View Lodge; this is only about 30 min or 20 miles away.
120 Highway: Groveland-Big Oak Flat is a small village with a few inns and restaurants
140 Highway: further out than El Portal is the larger town of Mariposa.
41 Highway: Tenaya Lodge, a larger nicer resort operated by DNC, the park concessionaire, is about 35 miles/60 minutes out at Fish Camp, where there are other lodging options. Oakhurst, a much larger town, is 50 miles/80 minutes away.
Airports:
San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland airports (SFO, SJC, OAK) are from 3:40 to 4:00 away in light traffic, as is Sacramento (SMF). The closest larger airport is Fresno-Yosemite (FAT), about 2:20 away. Mammoth (MMH) is
