Driving into the park

Approaches from the Bay Area and Los Angeles

Bay Area: Afternoon commute traffic in the Bay Area is pretty bad; the exit through the Livermore Valley along I-580 can add an hour as can the southern approach via US-101 past San Jose. If arriving late, you might want to stay in the area before starting out in the morning. Alternately, you might elect to spend the night in the central valley, waking up to a shorter drive the next morning.

Los Angeles: It's a good six hours from LAX. Don't fly into there unless you have a good reason to.

SFO:

Airport Information

San Francisco (SFO) and Sacramento (SMF) probably have the most flights. Oakland (OAK) is a good option especially if you like JetBlue. San Jose (SJC) also works.

Fresno (FAT) is the closest significant aiport. I've heard bad things about Modesto, but have never used it. Mammoth (MMH) is relatively close on the map but is still a 2+ hour drive from Yosemite Valley, and is unlikely to be a good option.
